Introducing the first ever day trip for 2019, NEC will be conducting a programme to Pulau Ketam on 20 April 2019. This full day trip will be fulfilled with educational matters such as river cruise, bird watching and mangrove planting activity. The participant will gather at Port Klang before departing to Pulau Ketam by ferry.
Pulau Ketam, literally translated, means “crab island”. It is a small island located off the coast of Klang. The island is easily accessible from the Port Klang jetty by ferry. The “floating houses” that come to view as visitors approach the island is a sight to awe any city slickers. Perching casually on long wooden stilts, these dwellings are suspended about one to ten (1-10) metre above sea level. Pulau Ketam is actually a part of Important Bird Area (IBA) as becoming one of the flyway, which is a flight path used in bird migration. You will be able to spot migratory and water birds during the bird watching activity.
For river cruise activity, the participants will be exposed and learn more about types of mangrove trees at the Sungai Dua. During this activity also, the participants will conduct birdwatching activity to search what kind of birds that lives in mangrove area and to know more about the migratory birds at Pulau Ketam.
Have you ever know that Pulau Ketam is surrounded by mangrove? A massive area of mangrove! Let’s grab this chance to help in contributing in mangrove seed planting activity, where the participants will get to learn the importance of mangrove and knowing the different species and types of mangrove. Through out this activity also, the participants will know that the mangrove is ‘garbage trapper’ and we will do some clean-up nearby the planting site 😀 Let the sea and the land thanks to you for cleaning human waste 😀
